The Longreach Shire Council has recently been granted a $6 million dollar upgrade for the Longreach airport. This upgrade will consist of lengthening and strengthening the main runway, enabling it to accommodate jet aircraft, the relocation of the cross strip, taxiway, parking apron, roadway, highway access, and the construction a the new passenger terminal.
